Talent Development

Caring for Careers - A Workshop for Managers

Managers need to:

  • take care of their own careers  - to keep developing, while providing a role model for talent development
  • keep learning about the manager role - how to bring greatest benefit to direct reports and the business
  • understand their people - making the most of their core talent and abilities
  • use the Life Alignment Curve – informing management style with individual direct reports
  • build the success behaviours into the workings of their team – each person gets the best for their career and the business gets the best from the team

Caring for Careers provides managers with the opportunity to review their own career, then apply their personal learning to the careers of those who work with them.

Day one focuses on understanding what it takes to be successful and the factors that help or hinder high performance. Managers learn first about themselves, then review the progress of the people they manage.

Day two provides small, confidential learning groups where managers have the opportunity to explore the workings of their teams, in order to define the best next steps. The output is a robust action plan for the next six weeks.

After six weeks, Day three is the opportunity to return to the large and small groups to explore the action plan. Participants consider what went well, the challenges they encountered and steps they need to take in the future. The output is an action plan for the next six months.
